MANSFIELD, OH - A community mural was diplayed at OhioHealth Mansfield on Tuesday as part of National Kick Butts Day.

National Kick Butts Day is a day of activism created to encourage youth to reject tobacco industry's marketing and to stay tobacco-free. The event is organized by the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids, and has been in existence since 1996.

The campaign awarded the Community Action for Capable Youth (CACY) with grant funding to design a community mural designed by Richland County youth.

Two mosaic collages of images were made, spelling out STOP TOBACCO. Inside of those words contain images that portray addiction and other negative consequesnces of tobacoo and e-cigarette use including impact on health, family and fincances. The images located in the backgound of the mural show colored images displaying the benefits of living a tobacco free life, healthy alternatives and ways to resist peer pressure to use tobacoo.

Students from Clear Fork, Crestview, Foundation Academy, Madison, Mansfield, Mansfield St. Mary's, Plymouth - Shiloh, and Shelby participated in the mural creation.

The mural will travel throughout Richland County to the different schools and community agencies that participated in its creation.

32% of Richland County youth grades 9th-12th had ever tried cigarettes and 11% reported being current smokers, while 16% of adults reported being current smokers, accordeing to a 2016/2017 Richland County Health Assessment.
