MANSFIELD, OH - Keith Porch took his oath of office to serve as the City of Mansfield's new Police Chief on Wednesday.
The oath of office was held in the Mansfield City Council Chambers. A crowd containing friends, family, officers from the Mansfield and Richland County Sheirff's Office, as well as police chiefs of different departments in Richland County all watched as Porch took his oath in front of Mansfield Mayor Tim Theaker.
"It's just jaw dropping to see the support thats come out for me." New Mansfield Police Chief Keith Porch said.
Chief Porch mentioned during his speech to those in attendance that he always had a dream to be a police officer in the City of Mansfield. He further stated that even if he did not get the role of police chief, he would still say he fufilled his dream.
"I've been born and raised here... and throughout my young life I got to see the cruisers and the men and women in uniform... they were superheroes." Porch said. "My dad was the incredible hulk, but the officers were the superheroes."
Chief Porch also stated that he wants to continue to build the relationship between the community and the police department.
"I'm fully committed to the community-policing philosophy." Porch stated. "I beleive that the police department and the community have to have that parternship... it cannot be done alone."
Porch began his career with the Mansfield Division of Police in 1999 as a Patrol Officer in the Community Service Bureau. He became a detective with METRICH/S.I.U in April of 2007. Porch was then promoted to Sergeant in 2009 and returned to the Community Service Bureau until October of 2012. Porch was reassigned to METRICH /S,I.U until May of 2013, where he was promoted to Lieutenant, where he served in this capacity until March of 2014.
Porch was promoted to Assistant Chief of Police in March of 2014.
Porch is a lifelong resident of Richland County and is a Mansfield Senior High School 1993 Graduate. He graduated from North Central State College Police Academy in 1994, graduated from the Police Executive Leadership College in 2013, and graduated from the FBI National Academy in 2016. Porch has registered over 1700 hours in advanced law enforcement training.
