Tornado Causes Significant Damage In Shelby

SHELBY, OH - Major storm damage has been reported throughout North Central Ohio.

The City of Shelby sustained major storm damage throughout the area. The roof at Rocket Chevy, located on Mansfield Avenue, has been blown off and sustained major damage. Damage was also sustained to Donley Ford, Drug Mar,t and Carton Service, according to the Shelby Police Department. 

The Police Department lost internet and all radio communications, but was still able to resume operations thanks to their backup generator. 

The Shelby Police Department has reported that only 5-10 people sutained minor injuries to the storm, Fire Department crews worked on multiple accident locations and damaged buildings with mutual aid provided by Plymouth, Franklin, and Springfield townships. 

Many roads are closed throughout the Shelby area including OH 39 and OH 96 due to downed trees and power lines as well as potential gas leaks.

Recovery efforts are currently underway in Shelby. Richland EMA, the Red Cross, Amateur Radio Club, and other volunteers have come to assist in neccesary repairs. 

Richland County Sheriff's Office, Mansfield Division of Police, Lexington Police Department, Ontario Police Department, Plymouth Police Department, and Greenwich Police all provided equipment and manpower to help in releif efforts. 

A press conference has been scheduled for Monday at 1:00 PM to provide a final update on Sunday's tornado and outline cleanup efforts. 

The tornado was was issued by the National Weather service and expired at 9:00 PM on Sunday.
