MANSFIELD, OH - On most children's birthdays, you can expect the usual: cake, ice cream, and presents. Eight-year-old Amanda, however, isn't your usual kid. In a touching gesture of generosity, Amanda decided to forgo presents in lieu of donations to be made to the Humane Society of Richland County.

"She brought in a couple bags of dog food, a couple bags of cat food, and some treats and toys," said Missy Houghton, Executive Director of the Humane Society. "This is actually her second year doing it. For two years, she's been incredibly generous to us and it's very nice when you see a child take the opportunity to give to others. We appreciate everything she's done. It helps us because we are run strictly on donations, grants, and fundraising. We care for our animals through the generosity of our community."

The shelter is currently in need of supplies such as trash bags, Purina-brand puppy and kitten chow, and Purina-brand dog and cat food to help feed pets in anticipation of the summer season.
