BUCYRUS, OH - The Bucyrus City School District Board of Education announced that Matthew Chrispin will be named Superintendent effective August 1st.

Chrispin will be on a four year contract. He is currently the Superintendent of Fredericktown Local School District, where he has served for the past six years.

Chrispin will replace Kevin Kimmel, who accepted the superintendent position at the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center after serving as Bucyrus City Schools Superintendent for 8 years.

The hire concludes a two month search for a new superintendent for the district. The Board of Education received assitance from K-12 Business Consulting, Inc. A 9-page superintendent search report was filed based on input received from seven staff/community focus group sessions and from 98 survey responses from parents, teachers, administrators, support staff members, and students.

15 applicants were interviewed. On April 16th, two finalists were brought in for a second interview where the board of education heard presentations from both candidates.

"Mr. Chrispin's overall experience and his successful track record as a superintendent, principal, and teacher made him a strong candidate from the beginning," Dr. Paul Johnson, Board President, said. "We believe he has the energy and expertise to work collaboratively with the board, staff, and the community to help establish an exemplary vision and direction to improve district performance. Under his leadership at Fredericktown the district has advanced in many areas including: increasing 4-year graduation rates from 84% to 98%, increased value added from bottom 2% to top 20% in state rankings and earned a state report card ranking of B in 2018. We are excited to have his leadership and the experiences he brings to our district."

From 2007 to 2013, Chrispin served as a high school principal, and from 2003 to 2007 as a assistant high school principal in the Marysville Expempted Village School District. Chrispin began his educational career at Worthington City School District in 1991, serving as a social studies teacher, and as a academic assistant. He also servied as an assitant and head coach until 2003.

"It is an honor to have been selected as the next superintendent of Bucyrus City Schools," Chrispin stated. "Bucyrus is a community rich in history and community pride. I am excited and energized to be here and continuing the districts focus on doing what is best for children, and with staff and community support, help lead and advance opportunities for all sutdents in the district."

A reception to welcome Chrispin is scheduled for Tuesday, May 14th from 4 PM to 6 PM at the district adminstrative offices, located at 170 Plymouth Street.
