MANSFIELD, OH - The city of Mansfield has been named a "Tree City USA" by the National Arbor Day Foundation for 24 consecutive years, and Mayor Tim Theaker has announced a special Arbor Day Celebration in honor of that designation.

The Abor Day Celebration will take place at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 26th at the gazebo in Central Park downtown. Held in partnership with the Rotary Club of Mansfield, there will be a ceremonial tree planting on the north side of the gazebo. The planting of a Pin Oak downtown will represent the Mansfield community's dedication to "implementing sound urban forestry policy," according to a release provided by Mayor Theaker.

Along with celebrating the Tree City USA award, the event will mark the beginning of a project for the Rotary Club. "The Rotary Club of Mansfield has a special project to plant trees in the Mansfield/Richland County area," said Scott Young, a representative of the Rotary Club. "We believe kicking off this project with the Shade Tree Commission on Arbor Day was perfect to demonstrate our commitment to the growth of downtown Mansfield and to share with the community our project commencing this spring."

The entire community is welcome to witness the tree planting ceremony and to learn more about the Rotary Club's Project or the Shade Tree Commission's 2019 Work Plan.
