COLUMBUS, OH - The American Red Cross released a statement today urging all eligible donors to give now in order to offset a critical shortage of Type O blood.

Currently the Red Cross has less than a two-day supply of Type-O blood available for emergency rooms. While 14 units are needed every day, only six are available. Type O is the most often infused blood type and is vital in trauma situations, making it critical in emergency rooms.

As a thank-you for helping to replenish the blood supply, all donors who give blood or platelets from May 14th through June 10th will receive a $5 Amazon gift card via e-mail. Appointments can be made to donate blood or platelets through the Blood Donor App, at RedCrossBlood.org, or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.
