MANSFIELD, OH - In continuing the featured stories on Richland Young Professionals' "10 Under 40" Award Winners, WMFD spoke to Ryan Smith.

At Richland Bank, Ryan Smith works as the Assistant Vice President of Consumer Lending. Smith started at Richland Bank over nine years ago, joining the team due to their strong community ties and involvement in local affairs. As Assistant Vice President of Consumer Lending, Ryan oversees consumer lending operations for multiple branches within Richland Bank. He also manages Retail Lending and is a part of the Richland Bank mortgage team, where he builds relationships with realtors to help manage mortgage purchases in Richland County.

When asked about what earned him the award, Smith responded:

"It's really just stepping up and being a leader. In the customer service aspect of banking, you're dealing with individuals' money. It's personal to them, so it's stepping up and also guiding others to be leaders within their department and branch."

Ryan also believes in a strong sense of pride and loyalty to his customers, his friends, and his family in the area, emphasizing that a strong community is what drives success.

"Community is everything," Smith said. "The community is what keeps us thriving at Richland Bank. Community is our business. It's important to remain focused on your community as a whole. Richland County offers more than you think. You don't have to go to Cleveland or Columbus, which a lot of young professionals feel they do. There are opportunities here. There's community involvement here, there's great businesses. Think about local, stay local. There are a lot of opportunities to thrive and grow within your young professional career."

Smith said he was present during the first inception of the idea of Richland Young Professionals, when a former mentor floated the idea of commending influential young people within the community for their contributions. However, Ryan never expected to be nominated himself.

"It's neat to have this opportunity to be represented, to be recognized," Smith said. "It's a proud moment."

The Richland Young Professionals "10 Under 40" award spotlights some of the best and brightest influential young people in Richland County. Stay tuned to Newswatch during the month of May for more spotlight pieces on WMFD-TV.
