MANSFIELD, OH- The Mansfield Police Department's Annual Bike-A-Palooza Event brought lots of local children out to North Lake Park on Saturday.

Officer and D.A.R.E. Instructor for the Mansfield Police Department, Orlando Chatman, said that the purpose of the event was to teach bicycle safety to local children.

"Today was our fifth year anniversary of our Bike-A-Palooza Celebration where we try to teach kids bicycle safety and teach them how to make safe and responsible decisions in the summer this year," Officer Chatman said.

There were many different events and activities for families to participate in during the event.

"We had a bike rodeo, which was an actual obstacle course where the kids got to learn how to ride their bike safely through different types of obstacles.  We had face painting, we had bicycle maintenance on kids who brought their bikes," Officer Chatman said. "We had also a registration where kids would also get a raffle ticket to win a bike as well."

Many families came to this years event to celebrate under sunny skies.

"We had an amazing turn out today.  I'd say roughly 50 to 75 kids. So right now they're all on the bike trail with the officers, riding down the bike trail, so that's also part of the event as well," Officer Chatman said.  "That's like the big finale."

Officer Chatman was excited about the event's success and is looking forward to another successful Bike-A-Palooza next year.

"It was an amazing turn out, we all had a good time, and we can't wait until next year," Officer Chatman said.
