Video Shows Rescue Of Missing Elderly Man In Mansfield

MANSFIELD, OH - Video shows the moment a missing elderly male was found by Mansfield authorities on Sunday. 

73-Year-Old Wendell Jefferson, who has dementia, was located by a relative at approximately 4 p.m. Sunday in a yard/field area off of Lafayette Street a small, sparsely traveled alley, off of Springmill Street. 

Jefferson was found in his motorized wheelchair, with water up to his waist. Jefferson told authorities and medical personnel that his wheelchair became inoperable after it was redirected off of the street and into the field by rushing water and mud. 

Video from the Mansfield Unmanned Aerial System shows responders assisting Jefferson onto a stretcher from the water. Jefferson was then taken to an ambulance where he was transported to a local hospital. His condition is currently unknown at this time.  

The Mansfield Division of Police would like to thank all of those who assisted us during the search as well as those who offered assistance. 

Jefferson was last seen on his motorized wheelchair around 12:45 p.m.Saturday.on Lawnsdale Avenue.

A "Silver Alert" was then activated on Jefferson and patrol officers searched the area with negative results.
