Mansfield, OH - The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning in several areas including Crawford, Marion and Morrow counties. Hot and humid conditions are expected throughout the state until late Saturday. Heat index values will be at 100 today, rising to 105 or above on Friday and Saturday with temperatures in the mid-90s.

UPDATE: At 3pm Thursday, the National Weather Service upgraded the Excessive Heat Watch to include Richland, Ashland, and Knox Counties.

The National Weather Service warns that heat stroke, heat exhaustion and other heat related conditions will be possible under an excessive heat warning, especially if significant time is spent outdoors. Light weight, loose fitting clothing and adequate water consumption is recommended. Strenuous outdoor activities should be rescheduled for early morning or evenings. Friends, relatives and neighbors are encouraged to check up on the elderly and those suffering chronic ailments, who are often the first to suffer from heat related illnesses.

To reduce risk during outdoor work the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, so call 911 if symptoms are shown.
