MANSFIELD, OH - Mansfield In Bloom is asking for the community to help with city wide clean up efforts in order to prepare for the upcoming visit from America In Bloom.

Suggested activities for clean up include litter pick up, pulling weeds, sweeping sidewalks, and more. Mansfield In Bloom also encourages businesses to also participate in the clean up.

Residents or businesses can request bags and gloves for clean up efforts. Anyone who is in need of supplies is asked to contact Kim Hildreth, the Program Coordinator for the City of Mansfield at 419-755-9689.

The judges from America In Bloom will be in town this Thursday and Friday to review community efforts in this year's competition. America in Bloom promotes nationwide beautification through education and community involvement by encouraging the use of flowers, plants, trees, and other environmental and lifestyle enhancements.

This is the 3rd year that Mansfield has participated in the America In Bloom competition. The city received the "Outstanding Achievement for Landscaping" award in 2017. The city was also named the 2018 champion in the 25,000 - 75,000 population category as well as receiving the "Coolest Place for Kids" award.

Richland Community Development Group Beautification Chairman Doug Versaw said the judges don't just look at the downtown area during their time in Mansfield.

According to Versaw, the combined efforts of the citizens are all volunteer-based, with the organizations obtaining various grants and other donations to get the city ready for the competition. The organization has had several groups out so far making the town really nice before the judging gets underway.

Versaw said that if community members see litter, weeds or other things that would detract from Mansfield looking beautiful, they are encouraged to help clean it up.
