MANSFIELD, OH- On July 30 Governor Mike DeWine decriminalized hemp in Ohio by signing Senate Bill 57 into law.  The law is supposed to create a hemp industry in Ohio and the Ohio Department of Agriculture will begin their new hemp program.

Hemp is Cannabis that contains only .3% or less of THC.  THC stands for tetrahydrocannabinol. That is the compound in marijuana that causes psychoactive effects in users.

Hemp is grown for industrial uses and contains a fiber, grain, and oil that can be extracted for CBD.  CBD stands for cannabidiol. It does not produce the same psychoactive effects as THC and can be used to treat issues such as pain, anxiety, migraines, and skin ailments.  Comfrey Corner in Mansfield sells several hemp products.

"I've had a lot of people get off of oxycontin by taking CBD and we've had a lot of doctors sending us people to get off of oxycontin with CBD," Cheryl Cox, owner of Comfrey Corner Natural Foods said.

Comfrey Corner sells many different hemp based products including hemp seeds, CBD oil and sprays.

"I really believe in health freedom," Cox said.  "I really believe that you can do a lot for your own health other than just taking a drug."

However, Cox warns that you should always discuss taking CBD with a doctor or pharmacist.

"You do have to be careful that CBD does not interact or cause bad interactions with some drugs, so they need to be talking with their holistic pharmacist," Cox said.
