MANSFIELD, OH- Dog lovers gathered at the Richland County Fairgrounds on Saturday to support the Humane Society of Richland County’s 17th Annual Strutt Your Mutt Canine Festival.

"This is our biggest fundraiser of the year," Linda Chambers, Managing Director of the Humane Society of Richland County said.  "We bring out pets and their people for a day of activities, contests, food, raffles, and a lot of fun."

The event is fun for both the patrons, and the Humane Society staff.

"At the Humane Society, on a daily basis we see the worst in abandonment, abuse, and neglect, and it's easy to focus on that but this event lets us come out and celebrate not only our adopted pets, but the people who adopted them and people who just love animals," Chambers said.

The Humane Society of Richland County depends on the money raised at Strutt Your Mutt to keep the shelter going.

"We are a nonprofit.  We receive no government, state, or local funding.  So, this is part of the critical dollars that we need to operate our shelter," Chambers said.

The Humane Society is always looking for volunteers as well as potential adopters according to Chambers.

"We encourage people to come out to the Humane Society to meet our animals, even if your not ready to adopt, just come out, and meet our animals," Chambers said.  "We always have dogs to walk, cats to pet and it's just a really nice place for you to come see."
