MANSFIELD, OH- Back to school means purchasing lots of new school supplies, but for many families this can be a difficult task.

So, Zion's Refuge Baptist Church is lending the community a hand by giving away backpacks filled with school supplies to families in need.

"We decided to do a school supplies drive for the needy kids in the Richland County area," volunteer, Diane Yarman said.  "The church contributed anything from paper to scissors and crayons, and then we had the youth group put the bags together."

Many backpack recipients are very grateful for the new schools supplies according to Yarman.

"They say it's been such a blessing to them," Yarman said.  "They don't know what they would do otherwise, so it shows the need in our community is very large for school supplies."
