Ontario SRO Gives School Safety Tips For New Year

ONTARIO, OH- The new school year is upon us and with it comes the vital role that school resource officer's play in the every day live's of students attending area school systems.

Officer's help the school year be an enjoyable experience for all that take part in the education of the next generation. In today's world the SRO has become a vital component in keeping students safe while at school. 

Ontario Local School District School Resource Officer, Elijah Finley gave some tips for the school year to keep it a safe and enjoyable one for all involved. 

"The new drivers and the incoming freshman. A lot of times everybody thinks.. Oh I can drive now, I can basically speed or do whatever," said Finley. "Slow it down, especially on the first day of school. Everybody needs to get in a nice routine. You don't get into a routine until after you do it for a while. Just make sure while your driving to pay attention to what your doing. No texting and driving."

Finley also advised students to not bring anything into the school that is not allowed to be on school property. 

"Don't bring anything that you shouldn't bring into the school. Obviously drugs weapons anything like that. We wanna make sure that it is a safe environment and we want to keep it that way."

The age of smart phones has brought the ability for students to post whenever or find anything anywhere but Finley cautions the ways in which students use technology during the school day.
