Community Rallies Around Trooper Phillips During Recovery

MT. GILEAD, OH- Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper, Jason Phillips is still recovering after being severely injured in a head on crash involving an impaired driver on I-71 on June 27.

Mount Gilead Post Commander for the Ohio State High Lieutenant Gurjit Grewal said that Trooper Phillips is slowly improving and continuing to heal.

"He's come a long way," Lieutenant Grewal said.  "He's improved a lot every single day. He's shown a lot of good improvements, so we know he is progressing in the right direction, but he still has a long road of recovery ahead of him."

Anyone looking to donate to Trooper Phillips and his family can go to the State Highway Patrol Federal Credit Union website.  The Patrol is thankful for the community’s support of Trooper Phillips.

"As everybody knows, this is not an easy job and it comes with a lot of dangers,” Lieutenant Grewal said.  “Any time we have one of our officers involved in a critical incident like this where they sustain serious injuries, life altering injuries, quite frankly, it's good to know we have the community support behind us and everybody that's looking to help him in his time of need.  He's going through a lot both mentally and physically to get through this whole incident and put it behind him"

Lieutenant Grewal said that anyone who sees an impared driver on the road, can call #677 which will connect you with the nearest Highway Patrol Post dispatcher.  Drivers can also call 911 to report an impared driver.
