Trooper Phillips Returns Home After Crash

MT. GILEAD, OH- Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper, Jason Phillips returned home Tuesday afternoon, after being severely injured in a head on crash involving an impaired driver on I-71 on June 27. He is still recovering from injuries sustained in the crash but is making progress slowly. 

The accident occurred when Trooper Jason Phillips was dispatched to locate a possible impaired driver at approximately 2:40 A.M. on Thursday, June 27th. The driver was said to be in the area of milepost 155 on Interstate 71. 

While traveling northbound, Trooper Phillips was struck by another vehicle that was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes. 

The crash resulted in both vehicles catching fire. 

The Ohio Highway Patrol states that a good Samaritan stopped to provide assistance, but was also injured. The good Samaritan and Trooper Phillips were flown to a hospital in Columbus. The driver of the wrong way vehicle was transported to a hospital in Mansfield.
