PERRYSVILLE, OH - A teenager was life-flighted by paramedics after falling nearly 50 feet from a trail in Mohican State Park.

According to Ashland County Sheriff's Office personnel, authorities were alerted about a runaway juvenile from the Mohican Young Star Academy, which is described as a "treatment-oriented private child care facility" for troubled youth.

The teen ran away from the facility at around 4:00 PM to 4:15 PM. Due to unspecified internal protocols, the Ashland County Sheriff's Office and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources were notified later around 4:40 PM, at which point both agencies responded quickly to look for the teen.

Authorities confirmed that as he made his way through the surrounding forest, the teen fell nearly 50 feet from the top of Big Lyons Falls, a waterfall within the State Park area.

A hiker who was in the area found the boy around 7:15 PM and called emergency services, who transported the teen to another area to be treated.

After moving the teen to the area of the covered bridge within the park, life-flight services were called to the area to extract the boy by helicopter. His condition is currently unknown.
