3rd Annual Downtown Live Fire In Ashland Educates The Public

ASHLAND, OH- The Third Annual Downtown Live Fire Demonstration, hosted by Ashland Main Street, was held on Wednesday afternoon in Ashland, in observance of Fire Prevention Week.

The event is a learning experience for the public about how quickly a fire spreads, and how crucial smoke detectors are to keeping people alive. 

The Ashland Fire Division demonstrated how a fire spreads during a controlled burn, for the public to get a first hand look at how fire prevention works.

"Our hope is that we can illustrate the importance of checking things like your home smoke alarm, especially this time of year," said Ashland Fire Division, Captain Mark Miller. 

Miller said the department also tries to illustrate the importance of fast response times to fires from fire departments, It is also imperative for families to practice home safety drills with children. 

Ashland Main Street Executive Director, Sandra Tunnell said having a live fire demonstration shows how quickly fires can spread and the crowd is always amazed.
