MANSFIELD, OH- A new Mansfield Police shooting range was dedicated to former Police Chief Lawrence Harper.

The dedication ceremony Friday afternoon brought together community leaders such as Mayor Tim Theaker and Police Chief Keith Porch.  There wasn't much question in anyone's mind who the new training facility should be named after according to FOP Lodge 32 President Mike Bammann.

"He was a 54 year member of the police department.  I worked for Chief Harper most of my career and it was very fitting to honor him and honor his memory by dedicating in his name and in his memory," Bammann said.

Chief Lawrence Harper inspired confidence in those who worked with him according to Bammann.

"For me and for most of us in my age group, the retired guys, he was a cop's cop.  He started walking foot patrol as a patrolman 54 years prior to 2002 when he retired.  He worked his way up through the ranks, became the Chief of Police and he was a cop's cop and he never forgot that and treated us accordingly," Bammann said.
