Blue Jays End Spartan Run

TOLEDO, OH- The Mansfield St. Peter's Spartan boy's basketball team came up a point shy in their bid for a state final four appearance falling to Delphos St. John's by a final of 44-43.  

In a low scoring game, the Blue Jays led by just two after one period at 12-10, but St.Peter's grabbed the lead at the break by outscoring the Blue Jays 15-9 to take a 25-21 lead into the locker room at the break.  The Spartans led by four after three 32-28, but the pace favored St. John's.

In the fourth period, the Blue Jays would outscore Sparty in the final period 16-11, to come away with a 44-43 win.  For Mansfield St. Peter's four players scored in double figures.  Jared Jakubick led the way with 13, Mason Campbell had 12, Tyson Kent 10 and Elijah Cobb eight.  

For Delphos St. John's, Owen Rode scored 14, Tim Kreeger 12, Collin Will eight, Jared Wurst seven which included the game-winning foul shots.  Robby Saine had three.  The difference in the game came from the foul line the Blue Jays went 12-18, while Mansfield St.Peter's went 10 of 19, missing eight of their last 11 from the line.

With the loss, the Spartans fall out of the Division IV tournament finishing as regional runner-up for the second straight season with an overall record of 25-3 and number 2 A.P. state ranking in Division IV.   With the win Delphos St. John's moves on to the Division IV state semifinal on Thursday at The Ohio State University at 5:15 against Cleveland Heights Lutheran East who was a 67-64 winner over Warren John F. Kennedy.
