Shelby, OH-  The Lucas softball team will get another shot at a Division IV district championship on Friday back at Shelby when they take on the Mohawk Warriors at 5 pm.  The Cubs earned their way back by downing Crestline 11-3 Tuesday afternoon in the D-4 district semifinal.

The Cubs wasted no time in getting on the board first scoring four first inning runs.  After getting a base hit, the Cubs Alex Depue would steal second, then advance to third and score on a passed ball 1-0 Lucas.

After Frankie Depue doubled to left, Morgan Spitler also doubled making the score 2-0, Cubs.  Anna Westfield would then drive in Spitler with a single to left.  An error by the left fielder would allow Spitler to score from second making it 3-0, Cubs.  Then, with Westfield on second, the Cubs Erica Westfield grounded to third, the throw was off line allowing Anna Westfield to score making it 4-0 Lucas after the bottom of the first.

Crestline would get on the board in the top of the second when Samatha Wilhite when the Cubs outfield lost the ball in the sun. Then, Desirer Navaja would hit a fly ball to center that was again misplayed allowing a run to score.  Then with runners on first and second Madison Huber would single home Crestline's second run making it 4-2 Cubs after two and a half.

The Cubs would get both of those runs back in the bottom of the third.  One coming off the bat of first baseman Junior Elizabeth Yirga with a solo home run to straight away center field her 12th on the season.

The Cubs would add two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings and take an 11-2 lead into the top of the seventh.  The Bulldogs would pick one more run before pitcher Erica Westfield would end the game with a strikeout making the final Lucas 11 Crestline 3.

The win puts the Cubs (19-6) back in the Division IV district final on Friday at Shelby at 5 pm to face the Mohawk Warriors (15-9).  Mohawk defeated Monroeville 9-2 to advance.  The winner will move on to the Kent State D-4 regional semifinal next Wednesday to face defending regional champion Hillsdale at 5 pm.  Hillsdale defeated Mogadore 4-0 at Copley to advance on Tuesday.
