LEXINGTON, OH-  After stopping Sandusky Perkins 8-4 last Friday to win the sectional championship, the 15-9 Lexington baseball team is headed back to Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio in an effort to defend their Division II district championship earned a year ago. Standing in their way are the 15-6 tenth seeded Kenton Wildcats who have earned their way in by downing #7 seed Ontario, 5-2, and #2 seed Vermilion 1-0 last Friday winning both games on the road.

"I think a large part of their success is their number one and two pitchers," says Lex head baseball coach Kevin Morrow.  They have done an outstanding job and they have a horse of a catcher that can hit it deep and he has a rocket arm.  Those are the biggest things right now and they will run at the top of the lineup."

As mentioned, it's been there, done that for the Minutemen having won a district title last year something that coach Kevin Morrow says can make a difference.  "I think it does to know that we won the district last year.  We have some experience with seven seniors and we're hoping to get another shot at it and so far the ball has bounced the right way for us."

"It helped a lot that we have been through the process, says junior pitcher Jared Strickler.  "This year I feel like we will be more prepared, ready to go through it again.

The key for win according to Strickler is pretty basic. "We've said it all along our major key is our pitching and defense.  If we pitch well and play defense, then the hitting will follow."

If Lex wins they'll return for a Saturday 1 pm matchup against either 6th seeded Clyde or #3 seed Bellevue at Heidelberg  The Redmen and Fliers play the first game Thursday at 2 pm.
