MILAN, OH- Thursday's Division II district semifinal at Edison High Scool would be a battle between Richland County foes Clear Fork and Shelby for a spot in Saturday's championship game.

The 6th-seeded Whippets took an early 1-0 edge in the top of the 1st inning on a sacrifice bunt by Camryn Zehner that brought home Kennadie Goth. The top-seeded Colts would strike back with a trio of runs in the bottom half of the frame, though, despite not recording a single hit. Clear Fork capitalized on a pair of Shelby fielding errors to claim a 3-1 advantage after the opening inning, but the Whippets would begin to chip away by getting leadoff runners on base consistently throughout the contest.

Shelby would put runs on the board in the third, fourth and fifth to regain the lead at 4-3 heading into the bottom half of the fifth inning where again, the Colts would put up three runs. Clear Fork pitcher Darian Gottfried would deliver a 2-RBI single, followed by an RBI single by sophomore Haylie Miller to take back the lead at 6-4.

In the top of the sixth, a critical play at the plate would keep the momentum rolling in the Colts favor when the Whippets Emma Taylor was thrown out trying to steal home on a wild pitch, but freshman catcher Carson Crowner collected the ball in time to make a near perfect throw to Gottfried for the tag out to end the top half of the frame. Clear Fork then sat down the top of the Whippets order in the 7th to close out the victory.

Shelby's season wraps-up at 16-11 in head coach Natalie Huggins first season running the program.

Clear Fork (25-3) advances to play #4 Upper Sandusky (21-4) at Noon on Saturday in Milan to decide the D2 Edison District title.
