CLEVELAND, OH- The 2017 Orange & Brown Scrimmage started with some fireworks as Mario Alford took the opening kickoff back for a score, then the Browns inter-squad scrimmage became a struggle for points.

The White Team shutout the Brown Team 15-0, with the only offensive points produced by field goals. All four quarterbacks split reps throughout the scrimmage with rookie DeShone Kizer, 2nd-year pro's Cody Kessler and Kevin Hogan, and new acquisition Brock Osweiler trying to set themselves apart from the competition... but that never happened.

Osweiler appeared to have the best control of the offense at the line of scrimmage and showed off some athleticism and arm talent during his time on the field, while Kessler went a perfect 5-5 on throws, but failed to lead his team to any points. Kizer perhaps had the best opportunity to win over the coaching staff with a solid performance but went just 7-14 on his pass attempts and missed a couple open targets in the final two minutes of the game.

The major standouts almost exclusively came from the defensive side of the ball where the team's first two picks in this years NFL Draft made their presence felt all over the field. Number one overall selection Myles Garrett showed a unique burst off the snap and a continuous motor that made him the consensus top choice. Rookie defensive back Jabrill Peppers showed off his versatility as well, making a few hard-nosed tackles while also returning punts and kickoffs.

The Browns will make their 2017 preseason debut on Thursday night at 8 pm when they welcome the New Orleans Saints to First Energy Stadium in Cleveland. Browns second-year head coach Hue Jackson has not yet named a starting quarterback for that game but says he doesn't want to rush the process of naming a starter at that position. He added that Thursday's starter under center may not be the team's starting signal caller moving forward.
