ASHLAND, OH-  After a 48-47 come from behind overtime victory over Columbus Mifflin in the regional quarterfinals, the 9-2 Ashland Arrows will try to get to the Division II regional finals next week as they take on the 8-3 Massillon Tigers.  Though the defense had had its problems during the season, it's been the Arrows offense that has been putting up some big numbers averaging nearly 43 points a game over the last five games.

"We have a great quarterback in Keagan Armitage," said Arrows head coach Scott Valentine.  And we've got five guys that are all capable of making big plays and so for him to pick and choose is big.  Depending on the week each guy has had a big week because of what teams try to take away.  And our offensive line has done a good job of protecting and they do a good job of run blocking."

"We don't just rely on recevier, says senior wideout, Manny Langston (47 catches 811 yards 7 TD's).  Our offensive line has been working pretty good, they've been working hard.  Keagan has been amazing this year.  He is a brave person.  Getting hit and getting right back up and making great throws the next play."

On the Massillon attack, Valentine says they can run or throw.  "They have a good tailback that can run it, (Jamir Thomas 261 1,087 yards 16 TD's).  Their line does a good job of blocking.  They run the ball at you and they play action pass you.  They have a couple of good receivers outside (Austin Kuscher 64-964-12 & Tre'von Morgan 30-415-2), that when they play action pass they can make some big plays."

"They have a group of guys that are hungry and want to work to get wins," says running back and receiver Owen Reef (874 yards rushing, eight touchdowns).  They want to win a state championship but we're going to do what we can to try and prevent that."

Asked about the opportunity to play Massillon with a good shot at winning Reef responded, "We're just focused on us doing what we have to do to win the game.  It would be a big win, but we have to focus on us."

"That's why you work so hard to get the opportunity," says Valentine.  And it's something our kids are gonna take and be ready for and hopefully, we can go out there and get the job done."

Kickoff at Wooster High School on Friday is at 7:30 pm.  The winner of the Massillon/Ashland contest will be matched up with the Walnut Ridge/New Albany winner next Friday at a neutral site.

The last time Massillon and Ashland met was 1910, with Ashland winning 6-0.
